E-Petition to decriminalise abortion
Abortion is still a crime in Queensland. Women can face jail time for choosing an abortion, while doctors can be imprisoned for providing abortion.
Right now, a couple in Cairns face charges over an abortion.
The law is extremely ambiguous, with doctors and lawyers themselves often unsure of the position. Some doctors have begun to withdraw their abortion services due to their uncertainty over the legal situation.
Queensland women are severely disadvantaged in their lack of access to abortion services compared to women in other states, a situation which is worsening across much of the state.
Public opinion consistently shows a huge majority of the community – 79% of Queensland, according to an independent poll in May 2009 – want abortion decriminalised.
Still the Government refuses to act.

Same Sex Survey: Not So Private Lives
Not So Private Lives is a national survey for same-sex attracted Australians which is being conducted through The University of Queensland and supported by PFLAG. You may already be aware of the survey through advertising or write-ups in various LGBTQ media outlets (e.g., LOTL Magazine, SX, MCV, Qld Pride, Blaze, GayTas, GayNT, and Sydney Star Observer) or via LGBTQ/I email networks. However, if you or your members have yet to consider taking part in this survey, we would like to take this opportunity to inform you of the research interests and offer you and your LGBTQ/I contacts the chance to include your say. You will find information on the survey and the contact details of the researchers, provided below.
A report of the results of the survey will be posted on the survey website, upon completion of the analyses.
