Nomination Information:
The Tropical Pride Community Awards are to acknowledge and highlight the support, dedication, hard work
and outstanding achievements made by LGBT people and our supporters no matter how big or small.
They also provide an opportunity to show appreciation publicly for those who in many ways positively
support the needs and issues of the LGBT community.
To be eligible for nomination the nominee should reside or be located in Northern Queensland, ie.
everywhere north from Mackay to Torres Strait Islands and across to the Northern Territory (NT) .
The following points are to provide you with information that will assist you in the nomination process:
1. No you may not nominate yourself.
2. Your identity is not disclosed to the Nominee.
3. You may submit any number of nominations in any categories.
4. To qualify under the
Individual category the nominee should be LGBT and must have made a personal
contribution to the issues that the LGBT community face, or have made a difference by performing a
particular role or activity that has helped other LGBT people and issues.
5. To qualify for the
Community Group category the nominee must be a non-profit LGBT group, may be
incorporated or not, may be a social/ support or peer based network or group, may be an activist/
political lobby group, etc.
6. To qualify for the
Organisation/Service category the nominee must be a non-profit community
organisation or service. It does not need to be a LGBT specific service, however to be eligible for
nomination they must be addressing the needs and issues of LGBT people. These organizations and
services may be incorporated non-government and government agencies.
7. To qualify for the
Business category the nominee must be a business that is LGBT owned and/ or
operated, or may be a business that is LGBT friendly and caters to the needs of the LGBT community
with equity and consideration.
8. To qualify for the
Arts category the nominee may be a LGBT individual or group and may be involved
in any aspect of the broadly defined term called the arts; this includes visual, performing, music etc.
9. To qualify for the
LGBT Supporter category the nominee should identify as heterosexual, or the
community group, organisation or service should be for the general mainstream community. The groups,
organisations and/ or services are to be not-for-profit and should support the LGBT community with its
issues and needs
. E.g. Politicians, Volunteers, Human Rights Groups, Political Parties.
10. Each nomination should include your reasons why you feel an award should be presented to your
nominee. These will be read out at the presentation ceremony at the
Tropical Pride Awards Night on
Saturday 29 August, 2009 at the Skinny Dips Resort & Spa, 18-24 James Street, Cairns.
11. All nominees will be contacted one week before the presentation ceremony to allow them time to
prepare a short acceptance speech and ensure that they or a nominated individual will be available to
accept the award on their behalf.
12. Nominations should be received either by email or postage no later than the close of business 5:00pm
on Friday 14 August, 2009.
